Christmas is just around the corner and with it comes the desire to create new traditions with your family. It’s wonderful to hang onto the older traditions passed down from generation to generation but it’s even more fabulous to create your own Christmas traditions for your family. Today I wanted to share a few ideas to help get you started to create new Christmas traditions for your family.

Christmas Activity Advent Calendar

This is a unique twist on an old favorite. Remember those Christmas advent calendars that gave you a piece of chocolate each day as you counted down to Christmas? This new Christmas tradition activity advent calendar will take that a bit further. Each day your family opens a little square that has an activity to do. The family can enjoy counting down to Christmas with one activity per day until the wonderful holiday arrives.

Christmas Light Tours

There are many free or inexpensive Christmas light shows from the end of November into late December. Whether you make a new Christmas tradition with your family to tour the local neighborhood light displays or purchase tickets to a light show event every year, this is a fun way to come together as a family over the magic of Christmas lights. Search your local area to see if there are any free or inexpensive Christmas light shows happening and make the plan to attend.

Annual Family Ornaments

Get on Pinterest and search for DIY Christmas ornaments or take a look at these cute Christmas mice and easy Pinecone Ornaments.  This is a fun way to get crafty with your family while creating an annual family ornament. Each family member can create their own unique Christmas ornament that will decorate the tree year after year. This tradition is a fun way to enjoy family bonding over craft time and laughter. Make some hot cocoa, get the craft supplies out and sit around creating your annual family Christmas ornaments with Christmas music in the background.

Christmas Pajama Party

Consider starting a new Christmas tradition with your family where you all gather around on Christmas Eve to watch a favorite holiday movie while dressed in Christmas pajamas. There are many options online to purchase a family set of matching Christmas pajamas so that the whole family can relax on Christmas Eve together in style while watching their favorite holiday movies. Take a vote on what movie you watch and which pajama set you buy. Each year buy a new set of family jammies.

There you have it a few new Christmas traditions to start for your family. Whether you create your own ornaments, make holiday greeting cards or sit back to enjoy a pajama party together, each of these traditions will encourage a deep family bond and make memories that will last a lifetime.

Do you have a Christmas tradition not mentioned here?  Make sure to leave a comment.  I would love to hear more about it!
